Sideline Clothing Collaboration

In late March I was contacted by Ellen Brookes, founder of the British womenswear label SIDELINE, asking if I would be interested in collaborating on a small limited edition clothing collection. Ellen had some leftover fabric from a previous collection, she suggested that instead of wasting it, I could dye it, send it back to her, and she would turn it into a small late summer capsule. This idea from Ellen emphasises SIDELINES ethos of ethical and sustainable practices. The brands foundation is to make clothes that last as a reaction to the industry of throw-away fashion. SIDELINE’s philosophy perfectly aligns with that of my own; creating beautiful textiles sustainably, with integrity and with no interest in trend-led ideology.

I’ve included some images of the process, below, starting with the initial dyeing with Madder root extract (before this the fabric has to be thoroughly scoured with soda ash and mordanted to make it colour fast) I then hand painted with Logwood (purple-lilac) Madder (terracotta) Chlorophyll (green) and Coreopsis (ochre)

Keep your eyes peeled later this summer for the clothing launch!
