Natural Dyeing with Silk

I have always wanted to experiment with silk when natural dyeing. Silk, like linen is a natural fibre, this means it works well when using natural dyes as it absorbs the colour, creating really strong tones. I’ve included some images from my investigations below. The silk I used was Habotai Silk, a very delicate sheer fabric, with a close weave, meaning that the second phase of painting with inks didn’t absorb as well as painting onto linen. But, as it was an initial experiment, I’m pleased with the outcome and will try out different varieties of the fabric, for possible new products.
